These occupations are currently in-demand because there is a shortage of skilled workers to fill job positions in the country. They include registered nurses, business development managers, welders, and caregivers to name a few.    If you’re looking for new, exciting and life-changing career opportunities abroad, Canada is an excellent choice for many reasons. One of the reasons is Canada makes it easy for foreign workers to live and work in the country and bring their partners and families with them!   There are a few popular ways to work in an in-demand occupation in Canada. The first and probably most well-known way is the Canadian Express Entry immigration system which is an online points-based system that manages applications for the Federal Skilled Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program. To successfully live and work in Canada through Express Entry, you need to satisfy the program requirements and receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.    Other popular ways to work in Canada are through the 11 Provincial Nomination Programs that are aimed at foreign nationals with skills that fit the in-demand occupations in the respective province and territories. Alternatively, you can temporarily work in Canada with a work permit.    These are only the most popular programs when in reality there are over 60 lesser-known pilots, streams and programs that can help you move to Canada and work in an in-demand occupation.    Learn more about Canada's popular immigration and visa programs below. 1. Express Entry

Express Entry is a fast and efficient online system used by the Canadian Government to speed up the immigration process for eligible candidates. The system manages online profiles for permanent residence by sending candidates with high Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores Invitations to Apply (ITA). Express Entry profiles are scored according to the CRS which measures criteria listed below. CRS Criteria Awards Points For:
  • Age
  • CLB Language proficiency (English and French)
  • Level of Education (In and outside Canada)
  • Work Experience (In and outside Canada)
  • Arranged employment

  • Sibling in Canada
  • Your spouse’s profile (if married)
To work in an in-demand occupation in Canada, you must create an Express Entry online profile under the following three economic classes; Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Trades Worker Program and for those applicants who have worked in Canada before, can apply through the Canadian Experience Class.

2. Provincial Nominee Programs

So, your occupation is in-demand in Canada, but do you know in which province/s? This is where the Provincial Nomination Programs (PNP) play an important role. PNPs are designed to address labor market shortages in their respective areas.  For example, Saskatchewan has a shortage of truck drivers and designed a special immigration pilot that helps foreign truck drivers move to Saskatchewan permanently.  You can work in Canada through an Express Entry aligned PNP stream and be nominated through the Express Entry system. If you receive a nomination from a province you will be awarded 600 additional CRS points! Alternatively, for other province-specific programs, pilots and streams, you will have to apply directly to the province or territory.

3. Global Talent Stream for In-demand Tech Workers

The Global Talent Stream allows in-demand tech workers to obtain a work permit within two weeks of applying! The Canadian companies who hire these exceptionally skilled workers must comply to pay them a minimum wage of $38,46 an hour that amounts to an annual salary of $80,000!
