7 out of 10 accountants consider looking for job opportunities abroad, particularly Canada, as it is ranked 4th on the list of top destinations for international relocation. But why are so many accountants immigrating to Canada? Here are the five top reasons why.

1. Quality of Life

61% of accountants choosing to relocate have cited quality of life as their main reason for immigration, and with Canada ranked as the number 1 country offering quality of life, it’s no wonder why so many immigrants, let alone accountants are choosing Canada as their destination of choice.

2. Experience a Different Culture

54% of accountants wanting to live and work abroad mentioned that they would like to experience a different culture. Canada has one of the world’s most eclectic cultures in the world, comprising of over 20 different ethnic groups and nationalities. 140 different languages are spoken in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, alone, making it the best country for foreign professionals to immigrate to.

3. New Career Development

52% of accountants stated that they are looking for career development. Canadian businesses offer a wide variety of support to their employees and encourage progress in the workplace, making it the perfect place for business-oriented individuals with the drive for professional growth and success.

4. Better Employment Opportunities

49% of accountants wanting to start anew have said that employment opportunities are an important factor when considering where to settle down. Canada welcomes over 200,000 newcomers annually and has set a target to invite over 3 million immigrants to apply for permanent residency by 2021. There are currently over 400 vacancies for accountants listed on Job Bank, Canada’s government job search website, making it clear that Canada is the only logical choice for those seeking better job offers.

5. Higher Salary Expectations

Surprisingly, only 48 % of accountants considered finance as a motivation for immigrating to Canada. Accountants can expect to earn a considerably competitive salary compared to other countries. The average pay range in Canada is between $63,000 and $75,000 per annum.

How do I Apply to Immigrate to Canada as an Accountant

The best way to immigrate to Canada as an accountant is to apply via the Express Entry System. It is a system set up by the Canadian Government to streamline and fast-track immigrant visa applications. The Express Entry System is point-based and applicants are ranked via the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)according to the information supplied on their online Express Entry Profile. Candidates are then entered into a draw pool, which usually takes place every 2 weeks, and the highest-scoring applicants will then receive Invitations To Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency.

The added bonus is that accountancy is listed on the In-Demand NOC list, which means that applicants can either apply directly to the immigration department of a particular province via the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) or be selected from the Express Entry System by a particular province to apply for permanent residency. This usually requires that the applicant submit a Notification Of Interest for that particular province. Those who receive a PNP will be awarded 600 extra points to add to their CRS score, which virtually guarantees permanent residency.
