Express Entry draw #137 just set the record for the most invitations to apply for permanent residency ever issued in a single draw by the Canadian Immigration department. The department shows no signs of slowing down as the qualifying CRS score was lowered to 470 for the draw, allowing a significantly larger number of candidates to make the cut. The number of invitations issued was exactly 1000 more than the first draw of February’s already large number of 3,500 invitations. The next draw at the beginning of March will see a lot more hopeful candidates completing their Express Entry applications as they prepare for a new life in Canada. If you are a skilled foreigner or have a depth of experience in one of Canada’s in demand fields, you may be eligible for express entry.

What is Express Entry

Train-to-Canada-Express-Entry Train-to-Canada-Express-Entry[/caption] The Express Entry System is a program instituted by the Canadian Immigration department in order to facilitate the process of immigrating skilled and experienced individuals to Canada as efficiently as possible. To apply for express entry you will need to create an online profile which will enter you into the Express Entry pool of candidates. Individuals are offered invitations to apply for permanent residence in Canada based on their Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) in a bi-monthly draw.

Comprehensive Ranking Score

The following factors are important and counted toward your CRS:
  • You can score up to 600 points based on your skills experience, your spouse or common law partners skills and experience and the transferability of these.
Additionally, up to a further 600 points will be issued if you have:
  • A Canadian post secondary qualification
  • A job offer from a Canadian employer
  • A nomination from a province or community under the PNP program
  • A sibling who is already a permanent resident of Canada
  • French fluency

Provincial Nomination

When you create your Express Entry profile you can express interest in living in a particular province. If the province believes your qualifications and/or experience will contribute to the improvement of their economy by filling much needed positions in their labour market, they may nominate you to apply for permanent residency and settle in their province. Each province has different skill requirements, so you could possibly find one, or a position that matches your skills more cohesively.
