For many people who want to immigrate to Canada, it’s about all the benefits that the True North has to offer. However, it's good to remember that the essence of programs like Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program is that Canada needs immigrants. There is no better example of this than the way in which the province of Manitoba has embraced and celebrated immigrants who have added so much to the local economy. In this blog, we tell the story of Lli Kurshell

Building Castles in Canada: Lili Kurshells Story

building castles in canada b&b The Canadian government is proud of the way immigrants are embraced in different provinces and display various success stories in one section of their website. One of these stories focuses on Lili Kurshell, who has not only successfully immigrated to the province of Manitoba but who has also launched and maintained successful businesses. One of these being a bed and breakfast. Lili fondly expresses how happy she is in the country, and how the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program has helped her family to plant roots in the Manitoba province.    Lili’s story is an important one as it represents the quality of life and job opportunity that attract so many people to Canada while simultaneously reflecting the way in which newcomers can make positive contributions to the Canadian economy.

Your Options to Immigrate to Canada

There are over 70 routes of applying to go to Canada and it can be confusing to find the right one. However, the most popular would be the Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program. These routes are similar but have important differences like processing time and province-specific limitations. For an expansion on both, see below.

Express Entry System

Applicants are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which is a points system based on information such as age, qualifications and work experience. Express Entry Draws are held every 2 weeks, where candidates are ranked against each other and those with the highest CRS scores will receive Invitations to Apply(ITA’s) for permanent residency. An ITA signals a period of 60 days in which candidates can submit their permanent residence application

Provincial Nominee Program

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was developed so that all the provinces of Canada could establish a tailored immigration program to deal with their individual needs with regards to skilled workers. This allows the specific province to hand-pick suitable candidates to satisfy the needs of their labor market. For instance, if the province of Nova Scotia has a shortage of accountants, they can select eligible candidates from the pool and give them a provincial nomination. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score and all but guarantees your chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply. You can also apply directly to a province that you know has a PNP in line with your skills. This application starts with an expression of interest, which indicates to the province that you would like to apply for permanent residence through their Provincial Nominee Program.   The roots of the Manitoba PNP are in the problem faced by the province with regard to skilled workers. Many businesses were facing limited growth and expansion because it did not have a workforce bug enough. Through the Provincial Nominee Program, the province is able to facilitate the immigration of immigrants with the desired skills, education and skill set to fill the gaps in the local labor market.
