With the recent coup attempts by TAG (Take Action Ghana) targeting Ghana’s presidency in September 2019 and the ongoing struggle that young Ghanaian graduates find themselves in regarding unemployment, it is no wonder that the youth are seeking more lucrative employment opportunities abroad.

Over 2,000 unemployed undergraduates attended the 2019 Ghana Job Fair in the hopes of finding employment - however, of the 140 employers present, approximately 100 jobs were expected to provide, which leaves us questioning where this leaves the majority of qualified Ghanaians.

Many Ghanaians have reported that they were only able to find employment after a year of searching and only when they knew someone who was able to help them get a foot in the door. This is however not a luxury that all Ghanaians are afforded, leaving qualified young professional having to take menial jobs to get by.

Over 60% of Ghana’s population is under the age of 25, making it virtually impossible for the government to logistically keep up with the demand for job opportunities. With insufficient work for the country’s youth, what is left for the thousands of aspirational youths of Ghana? Most qualified Ghanaians are looking to immigrate to Canada in the hopes of starting a new life that matches their qualifications in one of the most dynamic and multicultural countries in the world.

Canada’s immigration system has made the visa application process not only more accessible to skilled foreign applicants but also fast-tracked the process in order to meet its quota of inviting over 1 million immigrants to apply for permanent residence by 2021.

In this article, we look at why Ghanaians are choosing Canada as their top destination to relocate to and what the quickest and simplest immigration options are.

Why Canada?

High paying jobs in-demand

Canada has a wide range of employment opportunities for qualified applicants of varying skill levels in sectors such as healthcare, management, social assistance, hospitality and the IT Industry. Provinces which offered the most lucrative opportunities in September were mostly found in Ontario, which saw 41,000 new jobs as well as Nova Scotia, creating 3,200 new full-time jobs.

Below, you’ll find a salary comparison of some of the top-performing jobs currently available in Canada.

High Quality of Living

Canada offers an exceptionally high standard of living, including free public schooling up until high school, free public healthcare, safety, freedoms regarding sexual orientation and religion. Canada also has a strong economy and a low population density. Its bustling cities are hubs for young professionals and its numerous natural wonders are playgrounds for the adventurous at heart.

How Do I Immigrate?

There are over 70 different immigration and visa options for you to choose from, however, the best options are as follows:

1. The Express Entry System

The Express Entry is for highly skilled applicants and allows you to immigrate to Canada in as little as 6 months. You will be ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System and are required to score at least 67 out of a possible 100 points in order to qualify. A job offer is not required and you will be able to work anywhere in Canada.

2. The Provincial Nominee Program

The Provincial Nominee Program is for semi-skilled applicants who do not qualify for the Express Entry system however have work experience and a job offer in Canada. You will, however, be restricted to working for your designated employer for the duration of your visa in that particular province only.

3. The Post-Graduate Program

For those applicants who have a Canadian qualification, the government has implemented the Post-Graduate Program to assist foreign students with the option of staying on to gain work experience. The length of stay granted is dependent on the length of your study module or qualification. Applicants whose Canadian study program was 8 months or longer are eligible to apply for the PGWP.

How We Can Help You

By using a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC), the immigration application process will be effortless but you are more likely to be successful in your application. 1 in 3 Canadian study permits are rejected due to insufficient documentation, misrepresentation and forms that are completed incorrectly, to name a few, even though you have been accepted to your chosen university.
