How do you know if a job offer letter is real or fake?

Here are some signs that indicate whether a job offer letter is fake or not.

  • If the recruiter has a strange or personal email address, it could possibly be a scam. Do research on the job being offered, company website, or verify the job letter through government officials.
  • Your job offer letter should only come from your employer.
  • Always check for grammatical errors or misspellings. If a job offer letter has many errors, it is unlikely a legitimate offer.
  • If the job requires you to pay for training, they most likely are not a recruiter.
  • A recruitment company will not be able to guarantee a work visa or a visa to enter Canada, so if a recruiter states this, it is a red flag.
  • If at any time a recruiter asks for money in exchange to secure the job, it is a scam.
  • A job offer, or proof of a job offer is a definite necessity. If they cannot provide you with this, they are not a legitimate company.
  • Make sure your job offer letter contains; work hours, job description, salary rate, and list of responsibilities.
  • If the job offer states that you do not need any experience and does not conduct an interview, it is most likely a scam.

Be aware that there are scammers who send you job offers you did not apply for and that ask for confidential information. Do not disclose any information to them for your safety.
