With the latest Express Entry Draw, Canada is well on its way to break their Express Entry record of 2017. On the 28th of November, another 3,900 candidates received their Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada. This draw brings the total issued ITAs of 2018 to an impressive 82,000! Learn how you can immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry system below.

What Makes the Latest Express Entry Draw Different

The draw of 28 November issued 3,900 ITAs to eligible candidates in the Express Entry pool. This marks the sixth draw of 3,900, the largest draws of 2018, out of seven. Due to these large draws, the total number of ITAs, 82,000, has already surpassed 2017’s number, 80,523, during the same time period. Candidates who had Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores equal to and above 445 and who submitted their profile into the Express Entry pool before October 22, 2018, at 14:40:13, were issued ITAs. The minimum cut-off point is four points lower than the previous draw held on 15 November. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) typically holds two Express Entry draws a month. Seeing as the current total ITAs for 2018 is 82,000 and there is still a month left of the year, we might see two more draws that will push 2018 to break 2017’s record number of 86,023 ITAs! 2018 has already surpassed their Express Entry target of the year by inviting more candidates than initially planned. This comes as no surprise seeing as IRCC recently unveiled their great immigration plan for 2019-2021, which confirmed that Canada will welcome around 1.3 million immigrants into the country by 2021. It is planned that immigration targets will increase significantly by each year. Want to know how you can use Express Entry to immigrate to Canada? Read further to find the answer.

What is Express Entry?

The Express Entry system manages candidates’ applications for the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Skilled Trades Class, Canadian Experience Class and some Provincial Nominee Programs. In order to qualify for these programs, you need to set up an online Express Entry profile. During this time, you will be asked several questions about your age, work experience, educational background, language ability and more. You will then be assigned a CRS score determined by the answers to these questions. After your profile is complete, it will be entered into the Express Entry pool where it will be ranked against other profiles based on your CRS score. When IRCC holds their Express Entry draws they set a minimum CRS cut-off point and issue ITAs to candidates who meet this requirement. It is thus not a first-come-first-served immigration system but rather a merit based immigration system. However, you will benefit from entering your Express Entry profile into the Express Entry pool as quickly as possible in some circumstances. When multiple candidates have the minimum Express Entry (EE) points needed to earn an ITA, but there are more of them than what IRCC is looking for, they institute the tie-break rule. In the instance of a tie, candidates who entered their profiles into the EE pool before a specified date and time set by IRCC will be selected in the EE draw. This is the basic process for applying to immigrate to Canada through the EE system. There are also several criteria you will have to meet depending on the Canadian immigration program you apply for. The process is a bit more complicated if you want to apply for an Express Entry linked Provincial Nominee Program. In this case, you will have to meet all the Federal and Provincial criteria to earn a provincial nomination. If you are successful, it is definitely worth the try because receiving a nomination scores you 600 CRS points, putting you on the top of the list for the next EE draw.
