Immigrate to Canada in 2021

People who want to immigrate to Canada often tend to rush the immigration process, anxious for news of the outcome of their application, ready to start their new lives. When you look back on the immigration experience you do not want it to be remembered as a stressful time of barely meeting deadlines, anxiously submitting documentation with the hopes that it will be accepted and struggling to make the payments required for the applications. Canadian immigration programs allow for longer periods of time for applicants to submit supporting documents and once they are in the stream of one of the programs, things will proceed at a comfortable pace if handled correctly. The number of applicants has dropped significantly as people naturally adopt the ‘now isn’t a good time’ approach. Meanwhile, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada continues to hold draws for the applicants who have entered the Express Entry programs, giving preference to those with provincial nominations and/or Canadian work experience.

The Express Entry Process

While the Express Entry program, as the name suggests, is the fastest route to permanent residency, it still takes a minimum of at least six months before you will receive confirmation of your application.

Express Entry

The Express Entry system has three programs tailored to specific labour requirements of the Canadian economy. The Federal Skilled Worker program is for applicants who have a qualification and experience in a professional field. These include but are not limited to:

• Medical professionals and veterinarians;
• IT professionals;
• Managerial jobs and shore captains;
• Engineers and architects; and
• Accountants and other financial professionals.

Then there is the Federal Skilled Trades program which is for applicants who have experience and/or training in a trade, such as but not limited to:

• Industrial, electrical and construction trade workers. Such as electricians;
• Maintenance and equipment operation trades. Such as mechanics;
• Supervisors, HR officers and admin assistants;
• Chefs and cooks; and
• Butchers and bakers

And finally the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), which is for applicants who already have Canadian work experience in one of the categories listed above. CEC applicants are eligible for more points on their application and are given preference in the Express Entry draws because they have already shown that they can assimilate into the community and are far more certain about their decision to immigrate to Canada permanently. Eligibility Assessment

Which program you are eligible for will depend on your field of work and level of experience and qualifications. Building a strong Express Entry profile takes time and patience, as you want to maximize your Comprehensive Ranking Score to increase your chances of being drawn from the pool of potential applicants to immigrate to Canada. There is one program that works in conjunction with the Express Entry, and if you can secure a provincial nomination your permanent residency is all but secured.

Provincial Nomination Program

Provincial Nomination Programs (PNP) are province-specific immigration streams that were developed to address the particular labour needs of provinces in order to boost their economies, thereby boosting the national economy as a whole. There are two ways to earn a provincial nomination. One is by applying to the province directly, you can follow this immigration stream which is a bit longer and takes more time, but has significantly fewer applicants. The second is to create an expression of interest in a particular province on your Express Entry profile. If they think you can add value to their economy they will endorse you, adding 600 points to your CRS and putting you into pole position for the next Express Entry draw. Each province has different in-demand professions, so careful research will be required into where you have the best chance of succeeding in earning a provincial nomination and further, whether it is a province you can seriously make the decision to settle and live in.
