The Express Entry is a popular immigration system that Canada uses to manage online profiles for permanent residence from three economic classes; the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Trades Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class Skilled foreign nationals can apply to immigrate through the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class Program without having to obtain a job offer from an employer in Canada if they have at least one year of continuous work experience in 1) professional, 2) managerial or 3) trade/technical occupations listed below and have exceptional English or French language skills.

Provincial Nomination Programs

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. There are many subcategories of the Provincial Nominee Programs that allow foreign nationals to apply for Canadian immigration without having to obtain a job offer.  Find out more about these subcategories here.

3 Reasons Why It’s Better to Secure a Job Before Immigrating to Canada

Woman and man orking on computer Even though skilled workers can immigrate to Canada without securing a job first, it will be in your best interest to get the ball rolling beforehand and here’s why:

1. Knowing Where to Settle

Canada is a very big country. And if you immigrate through a non-provincial program like the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you are free to live in any of the 11 provinces and territories. As you can imagine, having a job lined up helps narrow down your choices of where to settle considerably! You’ll know more or less where to start looking for the perfect apartment or house that’s near your place of work and public transport systems. Securing a job beforehand means less stress and more time to focus on other important things.

2.  Avoid Running Out of Funds

The Canadian Government requires foreign nationals who immigrate to Canada to have starter funds/savings upon arrival. This is to help cover initial costs that come with settling into a new country. But those funds won’t last forever and you have no way of knowing how quickly you'll be able to find and secure a job - it can take anything from a few weeks to a few months!

3. Improve Your Chance of Immigrating

Canadian immigration works on a points-based system. That means the higher you score in certain eligibility requirements like; language proficiency, educational qualifications and work experience, the better your chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. The best part? You also get points for having a Canadian job offer! You can get anything from 50 to 200 points for securing a job in Canada, which will boost your chances of immigration success.
