New Brunswick is a great place to live for those wanting a more relaxed and simple lifestyle. Forests cover the majority of the province which means seeing moose, bears and other wildlife is common. It is also Canada’s only officially bilingual province with French spoken by a third of the province.
In this article, we’ll discuss how to immigrate to New Brunswick in 2021 and be part of a community that is known to be both welcoming and friendly.
Express Entry

The Express Entry is an online immigration system for skilled workers who want to become Canadian permanent residents. Applicants can be eligible for one of three federal immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Canadian Experience Class
The government determines which of the above programs an applicant is eligible for once their profile is submitted.
The Express Entry system is a great way for foreign skilled workers to immigrate to Canada, as it is one of the fastest immigration pathways as well as one of the largest immigration entry points. Successful applicants can find themselves in Canada within as little as six months.
When applying through the Express Entry system, applicants have the chance of receiving one of the 105,500 Invitations to Apply (ITA) that the Express Entry is issuing in 2021. Receiving an ITA means that the applicant is given the opportunity for Canadian permanent residency.
How does the Express Entry system work?
Only after the applicant has met the Express Entry requirements, can they create an online profile. They will need the following to create the profile:
- Passport or travel document;
- Education credential assessment report;
- Language test results;
- Certificate of qualification in a trade occupation issued by a Canadian province or territory (if they have one);
- Proof of work experience (if they have one); and
- Provincial Nomination (if they have one).
The applicant’s online profile needs to be submitted within 60 days in order to not start over again. This can be very costly to the applicant because there is a tie-breaking rule that states if more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles.
All eligible applicants will be placed in a pool and be given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS score will determine the applicant’s ranking in the pool, meaning the higher the CRS score, the higher the chance of the applicant receiving an ITA.
Did you know?
If an applicant is not successful in the first draw, they are able to stay in the Express Entry pool for a year and work on improving their CRS score.
How are CRS points scored?
The applicant’s total CRS score is made up of two sections:
- Core CRS Points - 600; and
- Additional CRS points -600.
The maximum score that can be achieved is 1,200 points.
The applicant can achieve this score with the following:
Core CRS Points
- Skills and experience;
- Spouse or common-law partner factors, such as their language or skill;
- Skills transferability, including education and work experience.
Additional CRS points
- Canadian degrees, diplomas or certificates;
- A valid job offer;
- A nomination from a province or territory;
- A sibling living in Canada who is a citizen or permanent resident; and
- Strong French language skills.
One of the best immigration pathways, especially when an applicant wants to immigrate to New Brunswick in 2021, is through the Provincial Nomination Program.
Provincial Nomination Program

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is an immigration program put in place by an agreement made between the local provinces and the government. The agreement states that local provinces may nominate qualified skilled workers from around the globe to work in a specific province, in this case, New Brunswick.

The applicant’s first step is to create a profile through the INB System, which is the online application system for New Brunswick. Top applicants will then receive an invitation to apply for a nomination. Applicants are then required to submit documents such as language test results and their job offer letter. Once nominated, candidates need to submit a paper application via mail or courier. The wait for results can be anywhere from 15 to 19 months.
Express Entry Application Process
If applicants decide to apply via the Express Entry system, they will have two options.
- Expression of interest - applicants can express interest in New Brunswick through their Express Entry profile. New Brunswick will nominate applicants who have the required skills and experience.
- Apply through a Provincial Nominee Express Entry Stream.
This option certainly has its benefits, as it could take as little as six months. The chance of receiving an ITA is also much higher.
