On Tuesday the federal budget is expected to detail how the Liberal government will financially manage the planned increase of nearly a million people to Canada over the next three years.
The cost has been estimated around C$440 million, between 2018 and 2020. But, the government has not yet provided a breakdown of the costs. In addition, the Liberals have also not yet included the cost of one unplanned increase in new arrivals, a surge of asylum seekers.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has estimated that their share is C$10.4 million, but repeated requests to federal departments for the full amount have gone unanswered.
