Growth of the Information Technology Industry in Canada

Interestingly enough, Canada employed over 864,000 people in the IT industry in 2016. Nearly 5.6% of the total population depended on the technological sectors for work. That number has only grown, with a predicted number of 182,000 workers needed by 2019 by the Information and Communications Technology Council. Canada’s tech industry shows no signs of slowing down. The country has been trying to make the application for new tech savvy immigrants a lot easier, to deal with the huge demand for experienced IT professionals.

In this system, your application should take no longer than 6 months to do, a massive change from the other programs offered from Canada so far. This makes it a perfect way to deal with the new labor needs of Canada, especially in the Information Technology sector.

 

The global talent stream

 

Besides the Express Entry, there was another program introduced this year to help Canada deal with its labour needs. The Global Talent Stream. Even more efficient than the Express Entry, this newer program was made for certain types of skilled workers. Its processing time, only two weeks to get a work permit, if you qualify.

Ontario

With the growth of technological industries in Canada, there has been an increase in the number of jobs needed to fill the growing market. Ontario has predicted that by 2019, the province will need at least 76,100 IT related jobs.

 

The province of Ontario is also looking out for people who have experience and qualifications in the following National Occupational Classifications (NOC).

These jobs are normally offered through the Human Capital Priorities Stream through the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP).

 

Also note that the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points required to apply, have lowered to below 400. Meaning more people have the chance to apply. But because of the high number of applicants this year, the OINP has closed. Though it may reopen later this year, so keep a lookout for updates.

 

Nova Scotia

With the opening of the Express Entry program on the 5th of July this year, Nova Scotia quickly reached maximum capacity. The program will hopefully open up by the end of the year and is done on a first come first serve basis. Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program or SINP focus goes through the Skilled Federal Worker Program using the Express Entry system.  Since July last year, this program has opened five times. The SINP allows you to become a candidate if your job is in high demand, in the IT sector.

 

You do not need a job offer to apply for this program. But do note that applications are on a ‘first come first serve basis’. If you wish to apply, time is of the essence. The following jobs are offered under this program at the moment.
